Celebrating Dr. Seuss
The other day we went to Heights Middle School to celebrate Dr. Seuss. Mrs. Mitchell had the students make the Cat in the
Hat, hat. I would like to share with you how these hats were made. This may be something that you might like to use in your
classroom.
- cut a large rectangle of red butcher paper (the height of a Seuss hat, and the width of the larger student's head).
- cut three strips of white paper the same width as the red sheet 9these are for the stripes.
- cut a hole in a paper plate making sure to keep four tabs to glue the red paper tube to.
- glue the white strips of paper on the red paper; spacing them evenly apart and leaving red at the top and bottom of the
red paper.
- wrap the red paper around your head and glue the seam.
- place this tube on the paper plate, and glue the tabs that were left on the plate to the outside of the tube.
- The hat is complete!
