Daily Reflection

Yellow Book, Turning

Today's class was by far the most productive class so far. Both students were fully prepared for class. They both had come to class prepared to share their stories. They had details, including sounds, sights and smells.

Each had their settings, and conclusions. I have to say that I was excited and they were excited as well. Both students wanted to get started as soon as we sat down.

We started to draw our webs. We each drew circles for our stories. Next, we drew a line for the setting of our stories. We each thought of at least three things to say about our settings. Then, we talked about sounds, smells, weather, sights, ect.

We made great progress. I am pleased to see how these two are excited about their stories. I am excited as well. I think the only obstacle is that the boy student in our group has NO desire to share his story with anyone. He asked me if he had to share it with others. I told him that I would talk to Mrs. Bradshaw.

When we arrived in class, I asked Mrs. Bradshaw about his fears of sharing his story. She said that it was his inadequacies in writing and spelling. I had noticed that he had trouble spelling even the simplest of words. This concerned me that in the 4th grade, he had so much trouble with spelling simple words.

I asked Mrs. Bradshaw about this and she told me to dictate his story for him. I have mixed feelings about this, but I think if it will boost his moral, than I will do that. I might even bring in my pocket dictionary for when I have trouble spelling, and then I can refer to it. This might be a good model for him.

Anyway....see you all next week!
