The first chapter was a grusome chapter. The author describes the killing of a doe. The ridder was out training his sled team when a doe leaped over his head dog. The doe was being chased by a group of wolves. The doe slipped through the ice, and then upon her surfacing from a hole in the ice, she was slowly eaten by the wolves...of which the author described in great detail!
