This is a lesson that I turned in for this class. It is also a lesson that I introduced as a part of my 7th and 8th grade US History Class. My students loved this activity. The each had an opportunity to speak and most importantly listen to each other speak and lend to a thoughtful discussion.

Listening Lesson

Objective:

Students will use the Efferent listening skills as outlined on page 30-31 in the supplemental section.

Listening is important as students will understand the importance of listening for the speaker’s purpose, what is to be learned, was it interesting, What have I learned?

Students will be prepared as they will understand the importance of key words, and phrases to listen for.

Methodology:

Students will be given the choice of taking notes. All materials for this will be provided. Students will have a selection of paper, and writing tools of all sizes and colors.

The hook will be that the students will be informational news reporters. They are to listen and report on the presentations given.

Students will have the choice of furniture and classroom location in which they will listen to the conversation or presentation.

Assessment:

Students will be assessed based on their understanding and presentation of their notes taken, or feedback of the other student’s presentations.
